Credit Bankruptcy

When Credit Bankruptcy is the Best Choice

Credit bankruptcy is a term that is used to apply to both Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcy and usually means that credit issues are discharged and the consumer is able to start back from square one. Many people believe that credit bankruptcy is a simple choice, but this should be something that is only considered as a last resort. When you have tried everything else and cannot get relief from creditors this is the only time you should consider bankruptcy, otherwise you should try to push through.

Is Credit Bankruptcy for Me?

Many people wonder if credit bankruptcy is the right choice for them and unfortunately there is not a straight forward answer that can apply to each individual. There are some questions that you can ask yourself to help determine if credit bankruptcy really is the right option for you or not. Some of the questions that you may want to ask yourself are:

∙ Have I made reasonable attempts to pay on my debts?

∙ Could I take a more responsible approach to my debt?

∙ Have I tried all debt consolidation options?

∙ Have I sought professional advice?

If you can answer that you have made all attempts to remedy the financial situation that you have found yourself in than perhaps credit bankruptcy is the best choice for you. One thing that you need to understand is that credit bankruptcy is a lasting decision. For at least seven years you will find that this one decision follows you wherever you go. Sure, the debts will be gone but you will have to answer for this choice every time you apply for credit or financing. In fact, in a lot of cases you will not be able to apply for credit or financing for two to four years.

Think about where you were two, four, or even seven years ago, it seems like a lifetime ago, doesn't it? If you believe that you can answer for this decision every time you need credit for that long because it was the only option, now may be the time for credit bankruptcy. If you don't think that you will be able to answer these questions with the knowledge that it really was the only choice, you may not be quite ready for credit bankruptcy. There is no doubt about it, this is the best choice for some people, but this is a lasting decision that will impact your life in a variety of ways and you need to be sure that you are ready to deal with the repercussions.
